The main issue after the possible explosion of the Zaporizhzhia NPP is to monitor the direction of wind in those areas. We are constantly monitoring the direction of the wind and the level of radiation, Yuriy Malashko, according to the information from the Head of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration.

According to him, the level of radiation both in the station itself and in the 50-kilometer area, which is under our control, is normal. So, in case of possible spread of radiation, we have to evacuate people in a 50-kilometer area and implement various measures. Last week, we held special trainings in this regard. We have also involved our foreign partners in these trainings. We have also developed mechanisms for evacuation and informing people, even those living in the territories under the occupation of Russia.”

According to Malashko, the structure and cooling system of Zaporizhzhia NPP are different: "Unlike the Chernobyl NPP, radioactive iodine is not produced here. In this NPP, it is not even necessary to use potassium iodide medicine after a possible explosion. The main thing is that people should close everything in the residential building after a possible explosion and wait for their evacuation. There is no need to evacuate people at this time because the situation is good. If this happens, we have determined the sequence of actions to be taken.”
