President Ilham Aliyev attended the ceremonial delivery of a high-speed crew boat named after singer Muslim Magomayev, state news agency Azartac said.
The Muslim Magomayev boat, to be operated by Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping Company, is 70 meters long and 16 meters wide. It was built of lightweight marine grade aluminium for a year at Incat Tasmania shipyard (Australia) in compliance with IMO HSC code. This catamaran vessel is the first passenger ship of this category. On October 4, 2014, the Muslim Magomayev successfully completed its sea trials and left for the Caspian Sea. She covered 11,486 miles to reach Baku.
The crew boat capable of carrying 150 passengers will deliver offshore workers to oil and gas platforms in the Caspian Sea. Depending on weather conditions (wind of up to 17 m/s and wave of up to 4 m) the vessel’s speed is up to 38 nautical miles per hour.
The vessel will let minimize transportation of offshore personnel and cargo by helicopters.
President Ilham Aliyev also reviewed the Lankaran towing-supply vessel. The vessel is 74.5m in length and 17.2m in width. The Lankaran towing-supply vessel is the leader in the Caspian Sea for its technical indicators. The tractive force of the 16,320-horsepower vessel is 207 tons.
Then President Ilham Aliyev had a conversation with the captain of a vessel sailing in the Black Sea under Azerbaijani flag through a video conference.
The fleet of Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping Company consists of merchant and offshore support vessels, all in all 97 and 188 vessels. In 2003-2014, 23 new vessels were purchased for Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping Company: 11 tankers, 6 ferries, 2 dry cargo carriers, 4 tugboats. Besides, the construction of 3 passenger ships began. These vessels capable of carrying 80 passengers each will play an important role in transportation of offshore workers in more comfortable and safer conditions.
