'A whole bunch of right foot got the old girl through!'

'A whole bunch of right foot got the old girl through!'

A thrill-seeking Australian has been filmed launching his huge four-wheel drive off the edge of a near vertical slope, crashing nose-first into a pool of mud and then flipping upright and roaring off.

The Sydney builder, Alex Lees, was halfway along the holy grail of 4WD trips, when he approached what is known by enthusiasts as 'The Gunshot' - a deadly drop that most drivers choose to bypass.

Ominously lurching off the ledge, his immense car slides down the hill and splashes into a pool of mud, before being catapulted upright amidst full-throttle revving and a cacophony of cheers.

Mr Lees told Daily Mail Australia that 'bigger lift tires, an offset on the wheels and a whole bunch of right foot were contributing factors of how the old girl got through!'

The obstacle is found halfway along Old Telegraph Track, near the tip of Queensland, and comes as part of a hugely popular three-week trip from New South Wales up to Cape York in far-North Queensland.

Mr Lees said that he hadn't heard of anyone driving out of 'Gunshot' in several years, primarily due to the low success rate of drivers daring enough to risk attempting it.

He explained that usually cars dropped front-first and got stuck, needing to be winched out with the assistance of other cars.

At the time of publication, the viral video had amassed over 3 million views on Facebook in just two days, as viewers universally lauded the driver a 'legend' and 'totally crazy'.

One user warned viewers that the dangerous drop in remote Queensland was seriously risky, saying: '1 in 100 people will actually attempt this ... one mistake and your cars a write-off'.

Mr Lees is part of a 4WD Club named 'Chattagoochee 4x4', an infamous community of Aussie mates passionate about offroad driving.

Four wheel driving is hugely popular in Australia and has an independent body named the 'Australian National 4WD Council', with the goal of representing the wider community and providing advice to Government, policy makers and industry representatives
