A giant octopus, apparently destined for a World Cup stunt, caused traffic chaos when the lorry carrying it broke down in Oxford Circus.Transport for London tweeted a picture of it, and urged rush hour commuters to "Approach with care" as the animal blocked the street.Shoppers needn't have feared too much as the large animal on the back of the truck appeared to have been created from polystyrene. After much speculation as to where the sea creature was heading, online gambling company Betfair claimed responsibility for it.In a series of tweets the company apologised for any "inconvenience" caused by the "prop which was used in a recent advertising campaign." The World Cup begins in nine days, and it is thought the octopus could be being used to promote it.In 2010 Paul the German octopus attracted worldwide acclaim for his accurate predictions in the 2010 World Cup.His skills as an animal oracle saw him predicting the football results by choosing a mussel from one of two boxes bearing the flags of the competing nations. He correctly predicted all of Germany's World Cup games, but died in October 2010 aged two-and-a-half.Mock-ups of the octopus photo have already began to spring up on Twitter.
