IAEA head urges security zone creation at Zaporizhzhia nuke plant

IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi has told the Board of Governors of the international agency that he had stepped up consultations on the creation of a security zone around the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant in Ukraine, reported from Interfax.

"The situation at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant highlights the urgent need to establish a security and nuclear safety zone there. I have intensified my consultations with both sides and count on your continued active support to achieve this important measure without delay,” Grossi said in a statement.

Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant is the biggest nuclear power plant in Europe, it has six VVER-1000 power units. According to the latest data, two of them are working, but in the hot stop mode - only for heat supply. The station has not generated electricity since September 11, 2022.
