Apple has just unveiled its latest iOS 10 operating system which will bring a host of new features to your old iPhone.

The update, which will launch later this year, includes major updates to iMessage, Maps and Photos.

But it also appears that upgrading to iOS 10 could give your iPhone a massive memory boost.

According to iPhone owners who have installed the first developer beta of iOS 10, the next-generation operating system automatically frees extra space on devices.

Some iPhone owners have even posted images on Reddit claiming to show the huge boost in memory.

One user managed to get an extra 10.51GB of available storage after moving to the first beta of iOS 10.

Running iOS 9, only 113GB of the 128GB storage in the iPhone 6S Plus was available, with the rest being taken up by the operating system and system files.

After the jump to iOS 10, the user-accessible storage jumps to almost 122GB – a whopping 8% increase.

On a 16GB iPhone that would be equal to about 1GB of extra space.

If you're 16GB iPhone is almost out of memory you'll probably have to wait until September to get Apple's new iOS 10.

But, if you can't wait that long you can always try this neat iPhone trick that automatically boosts your storage.

Alongside iOS 10, Apple also revealed updates to its Apple Watch, Apple TV and Mac devices.

These look likely to arrive in September when the firm's new hardware could also be unveiled.
