Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has launched large-scale reforms in governance structures. Within the framework of these reforms, some structures are liquidated, while others are merged. The next decree on these reforms was signed by the head of state yesterday.

One of the important points of the signed decree 'On additional measures to optimize the structure of a number of state bodies and improve their management' is associated with the revision of the list of government officials who are provided with an official car.

According to paragraph 8.7.1 of the decree, the Cabinet of Ministers within three months is charged with preparing and agreeing with the president a list of positions in the central and local executive authorities, public law objects created on behalf of the state and legal entities, the majority of which is owned by the state, that are to be provided with official vehicles.

The next clause 8.7.2. states that vehicles that serve persons in positions that remained outside the list prepared on the basis of paragraph 8.7.1 should be removed from the balance of these departments and submitted to the State Committee on Property for further privatization.

This paragraph of the decree is very important, because in Azerbaijan there is an extremely strange situation with official cars. Sometimes an official acquires at the expense of budget funds several service cars at once. There are cases when official cars are often used for personal purposes.

It is also not uncommon for inefficient state structures with meager wages to order luxury cars worth hundreds of thousands of manats for their managers.
Thus, it became known that the purchase of several luxury cars worth 1.4 million manats was the first step taken by the leadership of the recently created State Advertising Agency.

Most government agencies at the time did the same expensive purchases. And thanks to the new presidential decree, most officials will be forced to say goodbye to their limousines and jeeps.
