India, Russia consider JV to produce nuclear fuel

India and Russia are working on a deal worth 105 billion Indian rupees (more than $1.2 million) to supply nuclear fuel and key components for two new power units of the Kudankulam NPP, reported from TASS.

The parties are also considering the possibility of a joint venture (JV) to produce fuel for the NPP in India.

"India and Russia are working on a deal worth 105 billion Indian rupees to supply nuclear fuel and key components for two new power units of the Kudankulam NPP, which will be built with the help of Moscow," The Times of India newspaper writes with reference to sources. The future agreement provides for "the delivery by the Russian fuel company TVEL between 2025 and 2033 of the initial batches and subsequent five loads for power units 3 and 4 of the Kudankulam project, as well as a set of rod and fuel assembly control equipment," the sources specified.

In addition, the possibility of creating a joint Russian-Indian enterprise with the participation of TVEL for the production of nuclear fuel for NPPs in India is being considered.
