IOC apologizes to Azerbaijan over statements made by reporter of France 2

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has responded to an official protest letter sent by the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the National Olympic Committee of Azerbaijan regarding the biased statements made by the reporter of France 2, the national television of the host state, against Azerbaijan at the opening ceremony of the Summer Olympic Games held in Paris on July 26, reported from the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

In its response letter, the International Olympic Committee apologized to Azerbaijan for the statements made by the reporter of France 2 TV during the opening ceremony of the Paris-2024 Summer Olympic Games.

The letter reads:

"Thank you for your letter of 27 July 2024, addressed to the IOC President, Mr Thomas Bach.

We would like to take this opportunity to convey our most sincere apologies for the words used by the reporters of France 2 television during the retransmission of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games Opening Ceremony. Such words are not in line with the principles and the values that the International Olympic Committee promotes through sport and through the Olympic Games. Consequently, we have been in contact with all the responsible parties to remind them about our principles and working protocols. Please rest assured that clear indications have been delivered to avoid any future references using similar terms.

We are most grateful for your kind understanding, and we wish you all the best for successful results for your athletes during the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.”
