Iran embassy criticises Azeri media for "false, deceptive accusations"

İranian embassy in Baku has issued a statement criticising Azeri media for creating "negative media atmosphere against the two countries' relations", Tabnak news agency reported on 2 February.

According to Tabnak, the statement said: "Once again we witness activities by Iranophobia current and ill-wishers who are against the expansion of developing relations between the two countries in media atmosphere through certain press and media outlets of Azerbaijan. They try to contaminate the atmosphere of friendly relations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Republic of Azerbaijan under any excuses."

Tabnak said a "normal diplomatic meeting" between an Iranian diplomat and an official of an Azeri party turned into a "topic for certain media sources without any reason".

The report quoted the press department of Iranian embassy in Baku, saying that this meeting did not involve any "approach against friendly cooperation" between the two countries. It added that the embassy reserves the right to legal prosecution against "accusations and false and deceptive allegations" made against Iran.
