Iran Khodro in talks to build car assembly plant in Azerbaijan

Iran intends to open a car assembly plant in Azerbaijan, Hashim Yeke Zare, director of Iran Khodro (IKCO), told Trend news agency on July 28.

"At present, Iran Khodro exports cars to Azerbaijan. The company plans to open a Complete Knock Down in the country,” he said.

"Talks are being held with Azerbaijani business people on this,” he said. "Iran intends to get a license from the  Azerbaijani authorities to build the plant.”

"The plant will be built using Azerbaijani investment,” he said. "At the first stage, cars will be assembled in Azerbaijan."

He said that İran Khodro intends to begin car production in Azerbaijan two years after obtaining a license.

"The main priority for the company is production of high quality cars in Azerbaijan," he said.

The car assembly car in Azerbaijan will manufacture 10,000 cars a year. Some of the cars will be exported.

He said Iran plans to export 2,000 cars to Azerbaijan in 2015.

Iran Khodro manufactured around 360,000 cars in 2015, and plans to increase production to 600,000 in 2015.

Around 1.1 million cars were manufactured in Iran in 2014, while the country plans to bring this figure to 3 million by 2025.
