The Iranian ambassador in Baku said his country’s economic ties with Azerbaijan will expand after the expected lifting of Western sanctions.
Although Azerbaijan did not join the sanctions, economic relations with Iran were affected by sanctions imposed on the banking sector, Mohsen Pak Ayen told reporters in the Azerbaijani capital.
"Cooperation in this field will grow after the sanctions are lifted,” he said.
Azerbaijan and Iran plan to implement joint projects in the areas of trade and energy, Pak Ayen said. He added that
Azerbaijan’s Economy Minister Sahin Mustafayev will visit Tehran next month.
Construction of a railroad link to connect Iran’s Rasht with Azerbaijan’s Astara will be the top priority in the field of transportation, he said.
