Israel confirms opening of checkpoint on border with Gaza Strip

Israel will open the Kerem Shalom crossing on the border with the Gaza Strip to increase the amount of aid entering the enclave, according to the Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT),  reported from TASS.

"We have expanded our ability to conduct inspections of aid delivered to the Gaza Strip. Kerem Shalom will be open, so the number of inspections will double,” reads the COGAT statement.

The office also called on the UN to act more quickly regarding humanitarian aid entering the enclave through the Rafah checkpoint from Egypt.

On December 7, UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Martin Griffiths reported that negotiations were underway to open access through Kerem Shalom from Israel to Gaza.
