Israel may extend age limit for reservists by another year

The Israeli Ministries of Defense and Justice have prepared a temporary order to increase the age of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reserves by one year in order to maintain combat readiness during the ongoing military operation in the Gaza Strip,  reported from Israeli radio station Kan.

According to the temporary directive, non-officer reservists will be released from service at the age of 41 instead of the current 40 . The exemption age for reservist officers will be 46 years old instead of 45, and for military specialist positions, where the exemption age is 49 years old, it will be extended to 50 years.

The radio station notes that this order must be approved by the country's parliament. According to it, the purpose of this directive is to leave more reservists in military service during the Israeli operation in the Gaza Strip, which, according to Israeli officials, will take a long time.
