Israeli envoy to be summoned to Russian MFA due to unacceptable statements

Israeli Ambassador to Moscow Simona Halperin will be summoned to the Russian Foreign Ministry in connection with her unacceptable  statements, reported from TASS.

"In connection with unacceptable public statements by the Israeli ambassador, distorting Russian foreign policy approaches and historical realities, Halperin will be summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs,” the ministry indicated, commenting on the ambassador’s interview with the Kommersant newspaper. The ministry noted that the statements made "are an extremely unsuccessful start to a diplomatic mission, which should be aimed at developing bilateral relations in the interests of the peoples of the two countries.”

In her interview, regarding Russian-Israeli relations, Halperin noted that the Russian leadership, including at the presidential level, has repeatedly stated that the security of Israel is a strategic interest of Russia.

"Unfortunately, after October 7, we saw that this principle was no longer relevant. It seems to me that the Russian leadership did not fully understand that we had found ourselves in a different, terrible reality,” she said.

The ambassador also expressed regret that International Holocaust Remembrance Day is not yet an official day in the state calendar of the Russian Federation.

"I don’t really understand why Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov is downplaying the significance of this monstrous event - the Holocaust,” she said.
