Julfa checkpoint between Azerbaijan and Iran has been opened this morning, Iranian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Mohsen Pak Ayeen told APA.
The diplomat said that the citizens face no problems in leaving for Iran, both Julfa and Bilasuvar checkpoints are open, the crossing of vehicles and trucks has been resumed.
The Ambassador noted that the Iranian side increased the number of customs officials and extended border crossing period to prevent traffic jams.
Iran issued a statement on the closure of Bilasuvar and Julfa border checkpoints on November 8. The statement issued on the behalf of Mohammad Ayatollahi, the spokesman for the embassy, says that this step was taken due to the fact that the Azerbaijani frontier guards have closed Poldasht-Shahtakhti checkpoint and the attempts made to open it have not produced results.
Seyed Mohammad Ayatollahi said as the checkpoint was not opened, Iran closed Bilasuvar and Julfa checkpoints after waiting for two days and informing the Azerbaijani side beforehand.
Restriction for pedestrians crossing the border was eliminated after a few days, while for vehicles were not allowed to cross the border.
Bilasuvar checkpoint was opened yesterday afternoon.
