Konstantin Gavrilov: Relations between Russia and NATO are worse than during Cold War

Konstantin Gavrilov, head of the Russian delegation to the Vienna Negotiations on Military Security and Arms Control, evaluated the current relations between the Russian Federation and NATO, reported from the Russian press.

According to the diplomat, during the Cold War, almost all statements of the North Atlantic Alliance at the ministerial and other levels began with an assessment of the possibility of a sudden, large-scale attack by the Soviet Union and the Warsaw Pact countries.

He said that such rhetoric now dominates again: "In NATO's strategic concept approved at the Madrid summit in 2022, Russia was declared the most important and direct threat. The alliance plans to move away from this aggressive, confrontational logic for at least the next decade. Relations between the Russian Federation and NATO are worse than during the Cold War.”
