Kremlin calls for int’l investigation into Il-76 crash

The Kremlin has called it necessary to conduct an international investigation into the Il-76 crash in the Belgorod region, Russian Presidential Spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said, commenting on the words of President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy about the need for an international investigation into the incident.

He noted that the Russian Federation agrees to an international investigation if it is considered a "crime of the Kyiv regime.”

Speaking about the exchange of prisoners between the Russian Federation and Ukraine, Peskov noted that "nothing can be said” about the future prospects of this process.

On January 24, a Russian military transport aircraft Il-76 crashed in the Korochansky district of the Belgorod region. The Russian side claims that the plane was shot down by the Ukrainian Armed Forces. All 74 people on board, including 65 Ukrainian prisoners of war, are reported to have died.
