New director appointed to Azerbaijan State Chamber Orchestra

A new director has been appointed to the Gara Garayev Azerbaijan State Chamber Orchestra, which operates under the Muslim Magomayev Azerbaijan State Academic Philharmonic Hall, Report news agency said on Tuesday.

According to a decree signed by Minister of Culture Adil Karimli, pianist and PhD in art studies Leyla Guliyeva has been appointed to the post.

Guliyeva studied piano at the Bulbul Specialized Music School and graduated with honors from the Baku Music Academy with a degree in musicology. She began teaching at the Azerbaijan National Conservatory in 2004 and was elected professor in 2022.

From 2013 to 2023, she served as dean of the faculties of Performance and Music Arts. Until her latest appointment, she headed the conservatory’s Examination Center. Guliyeva is also the author of several publications, including a monograph on composer Jahangir Jahangirov.
