US analyst warns UK, France, Canada risk straining Ukraine support by backing Palestinian state

The UK, France and Canada may undermine relations with Washington and weaken transatlantic support for Ukraine by recognizing the State of Palestine, warned Daniel Samet, a fellow at the American Enterprise Institute, in an op-ed for the Wall Street Journal.
Samet described the move as “a dangerous and unnecessary mistake” that risks alienating pro-Israel Republicans, who currently control the House, Senate, and the White House and are strong supporters of continued aid to Ukraine.
“If Paris and London see Ukraine’s security as part of Euro-Atlantic security, and Ottawa is committed to a free and sovereign Ukraine, why take a step that pushes away key U.S. allies?” he wrote.
He argued that recognition of Palestine is unlikely to lead to a functioning state and may instead strengthen Hamas — an assessment echoed by President Donald Trump, who called the decision a boost to forces obstructing peace and the release of hostages.
