Latvia considers mining border with Russia and Belarus

Latvia considers mining border with Russia and Belarus

The Latvian government continues to rapidly strengthen its border defenses from neighboring Belarus, as Riga uses metal and concrete structures, known as "dragon teeth", and is also considering the installation of anti-tank mines along the perimeter, said the Minister of Defense Inara Murniece, according to Delphi.

"The border must be equipped, and the Ministry of Internal Affairs is responsible for the construction of the fence, the installation of sensors, cables, and this must be done as quickly as possible. But the border must also be equipped from a military point of view, because we see how quickly the situation in Belarus is developing," the official said.

She noted that even due to the fact that militants are massively sent to combat missions in Africa, and also return to Russia, a significant number of them remain in a dangerous neighborhood with European states. Therefore, they cannot write off the likely threats of provocations, because the situation on the border can change at any moment.

"Fortification of the border, these anti-mobility measures should be implemented throughout the Baltic region. Cooperation with Estonia is very close and I hope that Lithuania will also join, but Poland has always been a great mover," Murniece said.
