The Latvian ambassador to Azerbaijan, Hardijs Baumanis, has died. He was 48.
The Latvian Foreign Ministry expressed condolences to Baumanis’s family and friends in a statement on its website.
The cause of his death wasn’t immediately clear.
The ambassador passed away on April 6, according to Emin Musavi, an Azerbaijani journalist who was a friend of Baumanis.
Prior to taking up his job in Baku, Baumanis served as Latvia’s ambassador to Lithuania and consul general in St. Petersburg.
