Lithuanian Ministry of Defense to spend 36M euros to buy drones

The Lithuanian Ministry of Defense is purchasing various types of drones for 36 million euros, according to the press service of the ministry, reported from local media.

The Defense Resources Agency has signed contracts for the purchase of small-class reconnaissance drones from the Latvian company Edge Autonomy, mini-class unmanned reconnaissance aircraft from the Estonian manufacturer Threod Systems and micro-class drones (quadcopters) from the Lithuanian company Deftools.

Purchases are carried out on an urgent basis. Most of the drones are expected to be delivered this fall, with the rest expected to arrive in early 2025.

"The acquisition and deployment of unmanned aerial vehicles is one of the most important priorities in order to have a modern armed forces, so the development of this capability, which has been ongoing for more than 15 years, is gaining momentum,” the ministry said in a statement.

Until 2030, it is planned to allocate about 200 million euros for the purchase of all types of unmanned systems; an average of 30 million euros is planned to be allocated annually.
