Malaysia bans Israeli ships from using its port infrastructure

Malaysia has banned Israeli shipping company ZIM from using its port infrastructure as the Palestinian-Israeli conflict escalates, reported from the New Straits Times newspaper.

According to Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, the country’s Ministry of Transport intends to take urgent action by introducing a permanent ban on the company’s activities, which will come into force immediately.

"At the same time, the government has decided not to allow ships flying the Israeli flag into the country’s ports. In addition, any ships heading to Israel are prohibited from loading cargo at Malaysian ports. Both of these restrictions come into force immediately,” the Malaysian prime minister said.

"Malaysia is confident that this decision will not affect its trading activities,” he added.
