Malaysians may not need a visa to go to Azerbaijan

Malaysians travelling to Azerbaijan can expect to get a month’s free visa stay if the Azeri government reciprocates Malaysia’s gesture of offering 30-day free visa to their citizens.

Malaysian ambassador to Azerbaijan Datuk Roslan Abdul Rahman said the proposal paper was already up and negotiation was being carried out between the two countries’ interior ministries.

"Visa-free for Malaysians to visit Azerbaijan probably can be achieved by the end of this year or the latest by next year,” he said.

Roslan said the people of Azerbaijan could come to Malaysia anytime as they have been offered the visa-free facility for 30 days.

"Now we are working towards enabling Malaysians to be able to visit Azerbaijan visa-free,” he said.

Malaysians currently had to pay about RM188 for a 30-day visa to visit Azerbaijan.

Roslan held a dinner reception last night for a Malaysian delegation, led by Second Finance Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Husni Hanadzlah, to the 18th Asean Plus Three Finance Ministers' and Central Bank Governors' (AFMGM+3) and the 48th Asian Development Bank (ADB) meetings, here. The meetings end tomorrow.

The Asean Plus Three summit is an annual meeting between the leaders of the Asean member states and China, Japan and South Korea.

It covers areas of cooperation in the financial, politico-security, economic and sociocultural spheres.

The ADB is a regional development bank established since 1966 to facilitate economic development in Asia.
