Manchester United’s failure to finish Top 4 could cost $117M

The accountants have crunched the numbers and it appears that Manchester United’s failure to finish in the Top 4 of the Premier League could cost the club between $67 and $117 million dollars next year.

Following Wednesday’s 0-0 draw at Arsenal, United sit 7th in the table, 11 points adrift of 4th place. With 12 Premier League matches left to play, David Moyes‘ side have a fairly tame remaining fixture list with only three matches against Top 5 clubs (Liverpool (h), Manchester City (h), Everton (a)).As a benchmark, last season’s Champions League run to the Round of 16 saw United bank $70 million, derived from $50 million in broadcast rights and prize money and $20 million in matchday revenue (from hosting four competitions). The loss United faces could be reduced if they qualify for the Europa League, although the broadcast rights, prize money and matchday revenue would be far less lucrative. On the positive side for United, the club enjoyed record revenues for the second quarter of the 2013-14 financial year and currently project their income to rise from $603.97 million to over $698 million in the current financial year.(prosoccertalk.nbcsports.com)ANN.Az
