Two penthouse units dubbed the 'Jewel' and 'Champagne' suites are currently up for rent at a staggering $250,000 a month. The three-bedroom suites were designed by famous jeweler Martin Katz and come with luxury touches like a two-story cascading crystal chandelier.'I've been selling real estate for 32 years and I haven't seen anything as magnificent as these apartments,' listing agent Margaret Bay, of Brown Harris Stevens, told the New York Daily News. Other features of the suites include filled jewelry displays, grand views of Midtown Manhattan, as well as an expansive terrace with a hot tub.Bay believes the suites will probably rent out to a wealthy family as a part-time residence. She recently leased a full floor of the hotel to a foreign family who are in town for medical reasons, at $223,000 a month. The Palace Hotel has been part of the New York skyline since the 80s, when Harry and Leona Helmsley built the 55-story towers at the base of the historic Villard Mansion. The original set of six private brownstone townhouses in the neo-Italian style were built in 1882 directly across the street from St Patrick's Cathedral. Construction was completed on the Helmsley's 176-unit towers in 1981. The Sultan of Brunei owned the hotel at one point, and sold it for $400million to current owners Northwood Investors in 2011.Northwood poured $140million into the building for renovations.(dailymail.co.uk)Bakudaily.az
