Media: Türkiye likely to hold second round of presidential elections
02.05.2023 12:00
Türkiye is more than 50% likely to hold the second round of presidential elections, since the chances of the current head of state Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his main rival, the single opposition candidate Kemal Kilicdaroglu, are almost equal. The second round of elections, if none of the candidates receives more than 50% of the votes, will be held on May 28, reported from Hurriyet.

The chances that the election ends in the first round are lower than 50%. Erdogan seems to be a little ahead, but the shares of the vote are so close... Voting abroad will be much more decisive than expected. There is some decline in votes for Muharrem Ince, as well as a small increase in votes for Sinan Ogan, the article says.

Presidential and parliamentary elections in Türkiye are scheduled for May 14. The final list of candidates included the current head of state, 69-year-old Erdogan as a candidate from the Republican Alliance, the candidate from the opposition People's Alliance, 74-year-old Kilicdaroglu, as well as the leader of the Memleket party, 58-year-old Muharrem Ince and 55-year-old candidate from the Ata alliance Sinan Ogan.
