The former test pilot, 45, was chosen to be an astronaut for Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency in 2009 and has been aboard the International Space Station since July this year.
He captured these amazing pictures of Earth, its sunrises and the lights of capital cities at night from 250 miles up.
Kimiya, who is the first Japanese astronaut with a military background, took to Twitter to share the spectacular images and admit he has been left speechless in space.
Pictures taken at the end of November of a low pressure area over the Sea of Japan show an eerie silver of light glowing across the horizon, known as a zodiacal light.
Kimiya is to return to Earth on December 11.
He has been in space for almost five months.
