NATO Secretary General: Russia is neither our friend nor enemy

"We do not see any direct threat."

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that Russia does not pose threat for NATO countries, since the alliance members received reliable guarantees of security, vice.com reports.

"We do not see any direct threat related to any NATO states. The alliance provides reliable intimidation means to the member-states. This is one of the reasons. This is why NATO exists," he said.

Stoltenberg noted that 'Russia's role is very complicated for us to attribute it to friends or foes."

He said that the organization is tring to 'develop constructive relations with Russia."

He said the field of security in the world is now changing and NATO also gets adapted to these changes.

"We invest more funds to defense, raise combat readiness of our forces and strengthen the eastern wing of the alliance," the secretary general added.

"Russia was also the party to the negotiation process, which led to an agreement on Iranian nuclear program. It is included to the process of search of political solution of the conflict in Syria," he said.

Earlier the Russian permanent envoy in NATO Alexander Grushko announced that the countries, seeking to host NATO military contingent or armament, 'are on a thin ice'.
