Zaur Dadayev, accused in the murder of politician Boris Nemtsov, didn’t complain about beatings or pressure during the detention, his lawyer Ivan Gerasimov told RIA Novosti news agency March 12.

Moscow human rights defenders Eva Merkacheva and Andrey Babushkin, who visited Dadayev in jail, previously said that he had been tortured and the well-being of his family and friends were threatened. They were then summoned to the Investigative Committee, suspected of showing excessive interest for the criminal case.

"During the investigation, Dadayev said that no pressure was exerted on him,” said the source.

Nemtsov, who formerly held several senior positions in the Russian government, and then became an oppositionist, was shot dead in central Moscow on the night of Feb. 27.

The investigation is considering several versions of the crime, including an assassination. The probable motive for the crime has not been officially reported.

At the moment, five people have been arrested on the case - a former deputy commander of North battalion of Russian foreign ministry Zaur Dadayev, Anzor Gubashev, his brother Shagid Gubashev, as well as Khamzat Bachayev and Tamerlan Eskerhanov.
