The threat of an oil spill in the Caspian Sea has been thwarted as fire at two oil wells burning at the Guneshli deposit for nearly two weeks has been extinguished, the state energy company SOCAR said.
Fire at the second oil well was put out on Thursday, company spokesman Nizamaddin Quliyev said.
Efforts to extinguish the blaze at two gas wells still continue.
The fire broke out on Dec. 4 due to a gas leak after a storm. Thirty oil workers were killed in the deadliest incident in the history of Azerbaijan's oil industry.
