An international jazz festival was held in the Azerbaijani capital, Baku, between Oct. 25 and Nov. 3.
The festival, which was organized by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the Culture Foundation of Azerbaijan, ended with a performance by Ntjam Rosie, a gifted and beautiful singer, guitarist and composer from Cameron, who currently lives in Rotterdam.
Rosie performed non-stop for at least an hour and half, receiving applauds from the audience. She is the author of almost all the songs in her repertoire.
In between the songs, Rosie shared with the audience her feelings and thoughts about family, her husband and grandmother. She told a sad background to one of her songs dedicated to her grandmother, who passed away while Rosie was receiving education in the Netherlands.
In an interview with ANN, Rosie said she is happy to have visited Baku many times.
"Unfortunately, neither I nor the other members of my team have had the chance to walk around Baku and see its places of interest,” she said. "But I'll tell you one thing: I am amazed by the Azerbaijani cuisine, which is full of surprises. For me, food is huge happiness. I am from Africa after all. I know firsthand about the problem of hunger in that continent.”
Rosie said the audience in Baku is quite friendly. Yet, she didn’t find it too easy to "shake up” the audience with her performance. After the concert, almost half of the listeners came up to her, asking for autographs or her CDs.
Rosie likes to tell the audience in different parts of the world about her roots.
"You shouldn’t divide people by their races, religions or other differences. What’s the most important is to believe in good things and not fill your hearts with bad things. Each of us should build a kind of roof over our hearts so that good people could live under it and do good things.”
Rosie is the author of several singles, three albums and CD+DVDs. During the jazz festival in Baku, prominent musicians from the US, Canada, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Russia and Ukraine performed along with local musicians.
