An Azerbaijani militant, alas Abu-Zar Azeri, was killed in fighting with Syrian government forces near the town of Hama on January 14, APA news service said, citing rebel sources.
The man was a member of the Al-Nusra Front, said to have links with Al-Qaeda. His real name is not known yet. A photo of the man has been posted on rebel sites.
Dozens of Azerbaijani nationals, mostly members of the Salafi sect, have left for Syria to join what they call a jihad, or holy war against Bashar Al-Assad. Nearly 40 have been killed so far.
