The OSCE officein Baku conducted a regional training course today on the prevention ofdomestic violence for police officers. The event was organized by the OSCE officein close co-operation with the Azerbaijani Interior Ministry.
Topics discussed included the role and duties of police officers in preventingand combating domestic violence under the national legislation; participantsheard about the experiences of other countries in this field. Local experts andrepresentatives from the Interior Ministry also addressed the legal andsocio-cultural aspects of implementing the law.
“Domestic violence cannot be tackled by legal means alone; the role of policein the prevention and timely investigation of domestic violence isindispensable,” said Ambassador Koray Targay, head of the OSCE office in Baku.
This event is the fourth in a series of training sessions organized by the OSCEoffice for district police officers in Baku, Sheki, Lankaran and Guba. The nexttraining course will be held in Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic from 10 to11 December.
