Pakistan, Russia discussing long-term oil contract

Pakistan and Russia are discussing technical details of a future long-term contract for the supply of Russian oil, including the payment mechanism and required supply volumes, said Ambassador of Pakistan to the Russian Federation, Muhammad Khalid Jamali, reported from Russian media.

"Negotiations are underway on a long-term contract for oil supplies from Russia, both at the government level and at the level of private companies. I don’t think that there are any difficulties in the negotiations on a long-term contract; technical details are currently being discussed, including the issue of payment, volume of purchases and other things,” the ambassador noted.

Answering a question about what currencies could be used to pay for Russian energy supplies, the senior diplomat stressed that "all options are currently being considered.”

Recently it was reported that Surgutneftegaz, one of the biggest oil companies in Russia, is expanding oil supplies to Pakistan. At the beginning of November, Surgutneftegaz shipped a new batch of oil in the amount of about 100,000 tons from Ust-Luga Port in the Leningrad region.
