Vladimir Putin has signed a decree that cuts back on monthly salaries of the president, the chair of the government, the prosecutor-general and the head of the Investigative Committee by 10 percent for the period of March 1 to December 31, 2015.
The wage reduction includes monthly and quarterly bonuses.
Similar wage cuts are expected for employees of the Russian Accounts Chamber, the Presidential Executive Office, and the Russian government.
The decree comes into effect on the day it is signed.
At the end of February, 2015, State Duma speaker Sergei Naryshkin proposed to cut the salaries of Duma deputies by 10 percent.
On March 3, members of the Federation Council (the upper house of Russia's parliament) announced that they will agree to a 10 percent pay cut only in the event that members of the government also get the same reduction in salary.
According to official documentation, in 2013 president Vladimir Putin earned a total of 3.672 million rubles ($61,557). The annual salary of Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev amounted to 4.259 million rubles ($71,452). Information on salaries from 2014 has not yet been made public.
