The Baku Mayor’s Office banned peddling in the capital as of January 1.
The street trading of goods, including newspapers, was prohibited “taking into account the beautification” of the city, said the trade and services department at the Mayor’s Office.
From now on, newspapers and magazines may only be sold at kiosks, it said.
Some newspaper editors have criticized the ban, saying it will adversely affect the print media.
The sale of newspapers had earlier been prohibited at the Baku metro.
