He noted that Azerbaijan is the country in the South Caucasus that suffers the most from landmines.
"We are trying to help Azerbaijan as much as we can in solving this problem. The landmine problem is not a political issue but a humanitarian one. The European Union is interested in eliminating the mine problem in Azerbaijan. But this is a very long process," the ambassador said.
According to him, the EU has been supporting Azerbaijan in this field since the first days after the end of the war.
"Citizens are returning to those territories now, and they must be extremely careful not to become victims of landmines. Over the past 3 years, the European Union has allocated more than 8 million euros to the field of combating mines, and we will continue to support Azerbaijan in this matter," said Michalko.
