President Ilham Aliyev has met Petronas CEO Wan Zulkiflee Bin Wan Ariffin in Baku, state news agency Azartac reported.
Aliyev said relations between Azerbaijan and Malaysia are expanding fast. He said there is a "great potential” to strengthen the ties further.
Wan Arriffin said Petronas seeks to expand cooperation with Azerbaijan’s state energy company SOCAR.
Arriffin had earlier met SOCAR President Rovnaq Abdullayev in the Azerbaijani capital.
Petronas is in talks to join the planned Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) by acquiring Statoil’s 20 percent stake in the project.
TAP is to export Azerbaijani gas to Italy through Greece and Albania.
