Set a course for the end of the rainbow! If anyone was ever going challenge the leprechaun for his treasure, the crew on this warship must have had a pretty good chance.

The USS John C. Stennis, a nuclear-powered, Nimitz-class aircraft carrier, sailed under one of the meteorological phenomena as it cruised the Pacific Ocean on a bright day.

Navy photographer Ignacio Perez told CNN.com how he captured the incredible scene from the Nimitz's flight deck at the end of a short run.

'When I saw the rainbow I was excited because it was different. I knew the odds of the ship passing near another rainbow were pretty slim,' he said.

'I was actually covering the end of a 5K run on the flight deck at the time, but I noticed the rainbow as a fog cloud was breaking and quickly changed my location to ensure I had a better view of the ship passing underneath it.'

The John C. Stennis is in the Pacific for operational training in preparation for future deployments
