"We hope that like in previous years the developed ties between the United States and Azerbaijan will continue successful during his presidency."
All leading US editions, including Washington Post, The New York Times and others, were predicting Mrs.Clinton's victory. But what happened? Were they all mistaken or their assessment was politically motivated?
According to AzerTag, the statement came from President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev speaking at the meetign with journalists from different countries.
The head of state wondered whether the coverage of elections in press was a result of political interference: "Or those media outlets gave a very wrong forecast and lost public trust to a certain extent."
In conclusion, Ilham Aliyev shared his opinion about the new US President Donald Trump:
"My personal opinion is very positive. Despite conducted polls and expectations of leading media structures, despite the aggressive campaign undertaken against him, the US nation provided him a great support and he won the election. He deserves much respect. We hope that like in previous years the developed ties between the United States and Azerbaijan will continue successful during his presidency. There are many spheres for cooperation, including political, economic, energy and other spheres. Therefore, we, as Azerbaijan, wish him success and suppose that Azerbaijani people praise the developments in elections."
