Probe ended into death of Azerbaijani writer Rafiq Tagi

Investigations into the killing of a prominent Azerbaijani writer and journalist have been halted.

Author Rafiq Tagi, who also worked as a freelance reporter for RFE/RL, was stabbed by an unknown assailant in November 2011. He died several days later in a hospital.

Lawyer Elcin Sadyqov, who represents the late writer and his relatives, wrote on Facebook on January 8 that the Azerbaijani Prosecutor-General's Office had informed him in writing that the probe into Tagi's death has ended. No more details were available.

Tagi's relatives have questioned his death in hospital, saying he died suddenly, even while his condition was appearing to stabilize.

They claimed Tagi was not provided with sufficient security and that his food and medication were not properly monitored.

Before his death, Tagi linked his stabbing to a critical article he had written about human rights in Iran.
