Putin congratulates Aliyev on election win

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday phoned his Azerbaijani counterpart, Ilham Aliyev, to congratulate him on the ruling New Azerbaijan Party’s (YAP) victory in the Nov. 1 parliamentary election.
Putin congratulated Aliyev on YAP’s "decisive victory” in the election, wishing peace and prosperity to the Azerbaijani people, state news agency Azartac reported, citing President Aliyev’s press service.
Putin and Aliyev "expressed satisfaction with the successful development of friendly relations between the two countries in all areas, expressing confidence that these ties will strengthen further,” Azartac said.
YAP maintained its majority in the Milli Maclis in the election, winning 69 of 125 seats in the single-chamber parliament.
