Azerbaijan: Probe into journalist Aliyev’s killing completed

Investigators have completed a probe into the beating death of journalist Rasim Aliyev, defense lawyer Asabali Mustafayev told Azerbaijan News Network (ANN).
Aliyev, 31, a reporter with ANN, was beaten up by a group of men in Baku in August and died later in hospital. His deaths prompted criticism by local and international media rights groups.
Mustafayev said the defense team has yet to receive the investigation materials. The trial can start in late January or early February next year, he said.
The lawyer said he may ask for a new and more comprehensive investigation to involve doctors which the journalist’s family blames for the death.
There are many discrepancies in the doctors’ statements to media and the family about the circumstances of Aliyev's, Mustafayev said.
Police in August arrested several people, including Cavid Huseynov, a leading soccer player from Qabala FK, on suspicion of involvement in the murder.
Speaking in hospital hours before his death, the journalist said he was attacked by Huseynov's supporters after criticising him in a Facebook post.
