Authorities turned their water cannons on protestors after they reportedly confronted Muslim women in the crowd.

Protestors ignored an official call for marches to be postponed following Tuesday's bombings.

Terror attacks in Brussels killed 31 people — and one British victim has now been confirmed.

Hundreds gathered at the Bourse to express solidarity with the victims of the suicide bomb attacks.

Most of the protests were peaceful but white-helmeted riot police used the water cannon against a group of protesters who burst onto the square chanting and carrying banners denouncing ISIS.

Prime Minister Charles Michel said: "It is highly inappropriate that protesters have disrupted the peaceful reflection at the Bourse.

"I strongly condemn these disturbances."

The Mayor of Brussels added that the group were "scoundrels".

The crowds chanted "this is our home" while taking on the riot police.

There are reports flowers left at the scene have been trampled on.

One protester, who said his name was Mario, said: "We want answers from the government. There are too many fanatics in this country."

Earlier this week, ISIS, otherwise known as Daesh, officially claimed responsibility for the attacks on the European capital.

ISIS vowed that "black days" are ahead for the West after claiming responsibility for Brussels attacks.

The death cult says Belgium was targeted as "a country participating in the international coalition against the Islamic State".
