Armenian official: "Nothing" can force Karabakh "to give up"

Nothing can force the people of Azerbaijan's breakaway Nagorno-Karabakh to give up their "desire" for independence, News.am news agency reported on 23 November, quoting Armenian Deputy Speaker Eduard Sharmazanov.


" Everyone must understand that there is no alternative to the peaceful resolution of the conflict, and nothing can ever make the Karabakh people give up their desire to live in a free and independent homeland," Sharmazanov, who was meeting State Duma chairman Vyacheslav Volodin in St Petersburg, was quoted as saying.


He added that it is "unacceptable" that Azerbaijan is "ignoring" the agreements the two countries reached during meetings in Vienna and St. Petersburg.


Both Sharmazanov and Volodin praised Armenian-Russian relations, which they said have strengthened since Armenia joined the Russia-led Eurasian Economic Union, the report said.


Sharmazanov also stressed the need for a closer and more coordinated work of the Armenian and Russian parliamentary delegations on international platforms, the news agency said.
