The Institute of Zoology at the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan has commented on the observed accumulation of big brown butterflies in Baku and Sumgayit.

Informs from the chief of the invertebrates lab at the Institute of Zoology, doctor of biology Gulzar Mustafayeva, that these are Lepidoptera insects.

These butterflies are also called meadowy grass moths: "A meadowy butterfly harms the crops. They reproduce once or twice in five years. They feed on leaves, roots, and flowers," she said.

According to Mustafayeva, in the period of the mass reproduction of these insects, considering the harm they cause to crops, it is necessary to fight them with chemicals.

"Various insecticides are used to this end. Now it is likely the time these insects reproduce. This year, we also saw the period of mass reproduction of homopterans," she said.

Mustafayeva noted that these insects would lay eggs.

"Armyworms feed on leaves and roots of plants. In this period, it is essential to fight them and terminate the armyworms of these insects," she said.
