"Human character is like a fingerprint, there are similarities, but not the same" – Farhad Seyfiyev

29.09.2021 16:58
Modern people prefer visuals. That is why the correct use of a non-verbal, behavioural form of communication - body language - plays a key role in each of the modern areas of activity. Anyone who uses body language properly and attracts people's attention is also successful. Our conversation with our interviewer Farhad Seyfiyev is also on this topic.

After graduating with his bachelor's degree from the Faculty of Social Sciences and Psychology of Baku State University, Farhad Seyfiyev is a master's degree student in International Relations and Economics in Italy. He currently works as a mentor at "NewSpace acceleration open innovation” as a body language, micro-expressions, presentation skills, public speaking, mental health, subconscious strength and management, and applied psychology expert.

When it comes to body language, politicians come to mind first. Who do you think among the politicians can or cannot know the proper use of body language?

- Body language is important in all areas, regardless of the field of activity, body language leads people to either success or failure. Many people who look for the cause of failure do not see the real reason, that is, the misuse of body language. According to the communication model, 7% of our words, 38% of our tone of voice and 55% of our body language play a role in human relationships. That is why it is not what we say, but how we look when we say it. The most obvious example of this is John F. Kennedy, the 35th President of the United States. He was a skilled body language user, and his opponent, Richard Nixon, was a master speaker. A poll is being conducted among those who listen to the debates on the radio and watch them on TV. At that time, new TVs were being watched in American homes. Those who listened to the debates on the radio said with great confidence that Nixon would win, and those who watched on television said with full confidence that Kennedy would win. And, strangely, the percentage of votes received by Kennedy in the elections coincided with the percentage of views on television. So, it is proved once again that our body language and facial expressions are more important than our words. In modern times, Recep Tayyip Erdogan is one of the politicians who uses body language skillfully. However, among other politicians who use body language poorly is Putin. If we look closely at the photos and video fragments of the meetings between George W. Bush and Heydar Aliyev, who were able to have their say in their time, we can see that Heydar Aliyev was one of the most perfect "Body language" users in the history of politics. From the meeting between them, I have a 2-hour lesson on just one photo. For example, everyone says that Donald Trump uses body language perfectly, but he mainly uses the gesture of "intrusion into private space - squeezing in private space" to show his strength in the greeting. Learning body language in politics is a very difficult task, so I received a master's degree in international relations related to politics - economics. There is an opinion in this field: "People imitate the body language of the field in which they operate." Since I do not have the opportunity to analyze politicians directly, I chose this field to analyze the body language of the people who raised them, professors.

In addition to body language, you can read a person through facial muscles. Have you ever been wrong?

- We do not characterize people with body language, we analyze whether what they say or think is the same. What did they want, did they tell the truth, did they lie, what was the point here? - We find answers to hundreds of such questions. Based on the "Chanlaysis theory", which I founded out at an early age, I do a character analysis of 30-35 sentences, with a strong focus. Having 5-6 photos is pretty enough to realise that. There is a concept in psychology called muscle memory. What is muscle memory? Memory, which our muscles "possess", is an ability that allows us to repeat actions more easily when we perform them earlier. In other words, a player passes the ball without losing it among 5 players due to his muscular memory. In Azerbaijan culture there are two expressions, the first is "a light comes out of his face” or " a lightened face” which means a godly face and this person has a more positive character. And the other one "a poison pours on his face” or "a darkened face” gives the meaning of a person who has a more negative face. Of course, there are exceptions, I do this analysis not by the general appearance, but by analyzing every organ and muscle on our face. I analyze the body and muscles. Eyebrows, eyes, between the eyebrows, the size of the eye, the depth of the eye socket, the whites of the eyes, the forehead, the head, the ears and the tips of the ears. Since the day I have explored it, I have tested the basis of this theory between 7 different nations, 3 different races, with 1762 people, and I have always given eighty percent guarantees, but all the results have been one hundred percent. In each analysis, I have strengthened this theory and raised this percentage to ninety-three percent.

In modern times, many people undergo serious cosmetic surgery on the face. Does that make it difficult for those people to read?

- When I first was working on this theory, I thought I was wrong. When I found out why, I attributed the reason to the fact that the lady in front of me had cosmetic surgery. For this reason, I started working as an advertising and marketing manager-SMM manager in one of the most popular Beauty Clinics in Azerbaijan. My only condition was that the room to be given to me would be as close as possible to the rooms where the procedures were performed and that I should talk to patients as much as possible under the pretext of "collecting opinions" as much as possible. It was impossible to read the facial expressions of people who underwent fillers and Botox procedures, and it was very difficult, if not impossible, to reveal their characteristics. However, the faces of the women who saw the procedures, which they called "cleansing", were revealed, and it was possible to read and analyze them like a book. It seems that any medical procedure has been performed on this face. It is, without a doubt, a messenger of character, with messages such as paying attention to appearance and caring for the opinions of others.

If the character is read from the facial muscles, can the person's face change as the character changes?

- Yes, as the character changes, so does the appearance of the facial muscles. There is a myth that character does not change, it is all a lie. Character is changeable. However, atomically, a person 7 years ago does not have the same atomic structure as a person 7 years later, and each of the atoms renews itself. A person who changes his character should not expect that his facial features will change in 5-10 days or 1 year, and the character itself is not something that changes in a year. To me, a character is like a fingerprint, there are similar characters, but not the same character, it may be very similar, but not the same. But unlike changing a fingerprint, it is possible to change the character. It is a bit difficult to say exactly in how many years the facial muscles will change. My research in this direction continues. The general process shows that the process of playing the facial muscles and the period of adaptation to the changed character of a person is 4 and a half to 5 years, but this is not an exact figure. Six years of research are behind my easy explanation of this theory. Upon completion of my research, it will be published first in where I will be a PhD student and then in the world.

Is it easier to express body language or facial expressions?

- Body language experts train presidents and ministers of many countries. When to use a particular word, where to be silent, which word to raise the tone of voice, etc. They are informed about countless questions. Although, it is likely to be manageable, artificiality is felt. Because facial muscles, as well as micro-expressions, are not manageable. The inconsistency of body language with micro-expressions instills in us a sense of artificiality. That is why body language is partially controllable, while micro-expressions are impossible to control.

Can anyone learn body language?

- Anyone with the ability to observe body language, hyperactive and late tired can learn. I have been gaining new knowledge in this field for 7 years, but it is more important practice than knowledge. As far as I can see, it is possible to learn it in 2 months or 2 years.

What should those who want to learn start from?

- Primitive psychological knowledge is needed to learn and understand body language. It is enough to distinguish between the subconscious and conscious state, to understand what is happening in our brain, to know the general scientific essence of such concepts as very little medical knowledge, blood pressure, blood circulation, heart rate, body temperature. Then it is impossible to switch directly to gestures and body language. We have more than 120,000 gestures, and if evaluated according to the situation, it exceeds 360,000. It is impossible to memorize all. The first thing I teach my students is to analyze the situation. First, the situation must be assessed, then the body language.

Body language is often used to find criminals. Have you had such an experience?

-Body language is skillfully used in secret organizations in the United States and other countries to find criminals. In my case, it was not a major crime. We were interested in the reason for the decline in our sales percentage, I asked the company owner for camera footage when each employee was researching in their field because I was in contact with customers. They accepted to come to buy the product, the quality and preparation of the product was professionally done, there was no dissatisfaction, there was only one place left. I thought that the registered lady was not doing her job properly and I found out why our customers ran away. She had camera footage with a customer who took 3 products from us. There was no sound, but body language, gestures and facial expressions. After the first two products, a woman who was satisfied and did not have any problems now had a problem. We analyzed the reason by watching the images with the head of the company. The lady who took the product asked a lot of questions, and our worker, who was worried about the number of questions she asked, was already aggressive, rude, and answered without looking at the person in front of her. The client's body language was as follows: hands and feet completely crossed, waist slightly bent towards the lady he was arguing with, crossed while standing face to face, feet facing the door. From that day on, when we looked closely at the images, we saw similar gestures in five out of eight customers. This was the main reason for a decline in our sales percentage.

Does know this field give you more advantages or vice versa?

- In fact, there are many advantages. To be honest, my environment in my work life and my environment in my social life are completely different. My social environment does not know exactly what I do in this area. Some of those who know only send photos to analyze. Mostly opposite gender photos to know if a couple of matches or not, or even just asking about character. There are many such disadvantages. That's why I try to make as few people as possible know what I'm doing. But a lot will probably change after this interview (laughs).

What are your plans for the future in this area?

- I have incredible plans in this area. The basis of the field I have taken up in the field of body language belongs to me, and the work I do is to leave a mark on myself. My legacy will be taught in universities. The company I plan to create will be the world first in its field. I want to share my experience until it is accepted that this field needs to be known all over the world.
