EU hopes talks on new agreement with Azerbaijan will be successful

The European Union (EU) hopes for a successful conclusion of negotiations with Azerbaijan on a comprehensive, new agreement, Rainer Freund, program manager of the EU Delegation to Azerbaijan, told journalists.
"Unfortunately, there was a short break in negotiations due to the coronavirus pandemic. Although the discussions were held via video conference, Azerbaijan wanted these discussions to be held in person. At present, everything is back to normal, and we hope that the talks will conclude successfully,” he said.
The negotiations on the agreement began in 2017. The document covers both political and economic issues.
Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov said at a joint press conference with EU Commissioner for Neighborhood and Enlargement Olivér Várhelyi on February 4 that the agreement will be signed this year.
